Oasis Academy

GBBL at its year end has a turnover of over £207 million working in the construction sector. And it was Scomar who worked with them on the £28 millions oasis academy in Immingham. The academy opened on 26th January 2009, and boasts over 1000 pupils.

It is a state of the art building over several blocks over 2/3 floors and creates a community hub.

Scomar had the opportunity to work with Gleeson’s by supplying designing and installing over 200 individually glazed screens and doors.

A module partition system was initially specified, but on reflection of this contract it was decided for the best result it would have to be bespoke glazed screens.

These were each bespoke items and consisted of kiln dried solid oak with fire safety and acoustic glass the screens ranged from 130 mm deep to over 375mm deep with acoustic frames included. All frames were fully sprayed in the workshop with a protective clear lacquer.

Scomar designed along with its joinery department all screens that were approved by GBBL design team prior to production.

Half way through the contract Scomar were asked to design and supply and install the full height corridor fire doors as an addition to the contract along with the design and installation of the library bespoke desk that all complies with the current DDA regulations. Scomar supplied and installed to the reception and 1st floor library area the Avanti Solare glass screen system with 12mm glass doors. The framework to the solare is white ral 9010.

With Dorma ironmongery the Avanti Solare glass corridor to the 1st floor is fire rated with fire rated glass doors.

The oak and solare screens have opal frost dot or square manifestation on them and Scomar were asked to install this manifestation to the perimeter architectural glazing of which we did gladly.

The contract to Scomar was worked over a 4 month period and finished in full on time and in budget and worth £307k.

Since works are complete Scomar have been asked to tender for various contract for GBBSL due to an excellent growing working relationship.

Fact Prior to the oasis site getting of the ground there had to be a are amount of fund raising. And the Chief Executive of the academy Steve Chalke MBE ran the 2005 and 2007 London marathon raising over £3 million. This is currently in the Guinness world record books for the highest amount for any individual raising money.
